Widley Known Citizen and Devoted Friend of St Vincent's Home
Thomas Edward Mason a resident of the southern section of the city for the past 30 years and a communicant of St Patrick's church died yesterday afternoon at his residence at 217 Globe Street.
For a number of years he was a master mechanic at the Sanford Spinning Company from which position he retired. He was well known throughout the city where he had a host of friends. He was the son of the late Patrick Mason and the late Rose Ann Mason (nee Coffey).
Actively interested in charitable work of all natures he was for many years chairman of the committee that had charge of the annual picnic of St Vincent's Orphans Home.
He was the President of the "Fourth of July" Association of St Vincent's Home and was a hard worker in all the organizations that labored for the welfare and advancement of the orphans to whom the home has been a boon. He was so keenly interested in this work that it might be regarded as his hobby. His generous heart urged him on in all the activities of this institution and he never looked for recognition or reward. With him it was natural impulse simply, and he indulged it to the great benefit of the Home and all that it stands for.
Thomas leaves behind three sons, E P Mason who is connected with the W T Grant Company at Fort Wayne, Indiana, James H Mason of the New England Oil Company and Fred L Mason of the Butchers Rendering Company. He also leaves behind four daughters, Miss Mary E Mason, a graduate nurse, Miss Jane E, Miss Margaret A and Mrs George Bassett. He is survived by seven grandchildren and one sister, Mrs Elizabeth Lane of Montreal.
Thomas was a member of the St Patrick's Communion League and also a member of the Fall River Council #86 of the Knights of Columbus and Court Progress of the Foresters of America.
His funeral took place from his late residence on the following Monday morning, followed by a high mass of requiem at St Patrick's Church at 9 o'clock.
