Charley Mason, a son of Mr. and
Mrs. Patrick Mason of West Main
street, who graduated from Syracuse
university a year ago last June, is now
located at Hopewell, Va., as a chemist
in a gun cotton plant of the Dupont
Powder company. Mr. Mason entered
the employ of the Halcomb Steel
company In Syracuse after his graduation
and he remained with the firm
for a year, which ended the forepart of
last month. His work waa in the
laboratory. While with the Syracuse
firm he was looking about and he
secured his present position when his
year was up. The plant employs 2000
men on three shift work and no foreigners
but Italians and Greeks are on
the pay roll. Mr. Mason's many home
friends are much gratified at his
success in his chosen profession.

Brief Local News.
J. Leo Mason of this village has received his appointment to the Officers Reserve Corps at Madison Barracks and left for Sackets Harbor Saturday. Mr. Mason is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick J. Mason of this village and comes from a family of fighters, several of his ancestors having made names for themselves in the army. A brother, R. M. Mason, will attend the Plattsburg camp and another brother
is a chemist at the Dupont Powder works at Hopewell, Va. Mr. Mason is a member of this year's graduating class of Colgate university.

Dr. Charles F. Mason
Dr. Charles Francis Mason, who retired in 1950 as a consulting and analytical chemist, died yesterday of a heart ailment in his home at 440 Riverside Drive. His age was 67.
He was a graduate of Syracuse University and in 1925 received a Ph.D. from Columbia University. Dr. Mason had taught at Mount St. Mary's College, Emmitsburg, Md.; Notre Dame College in Cleveland, and New York University. He established his own laboratory here in 1932.
He leaves his wife, Mattie; two brothers, Arthur and Robert, and three sisters, Elizabeth, Mary and Anna.
