Arthur P. Mason, retired banker and publicspirited
oti/en. has just celebrated his eightieth
birthday
For he wears his years lightly, and time
doesn't s»vm to ha\e restricted his activity or

Most people remember Art Mason as the
friendly assistant cashier of the First National
Bank in Gouvereur. from which he retired
ten years ago in 1952 after 40 years' service.
But in the meantime, he had been active in St.
James church, the Red Cross and the Chamber
of Commerce which this year gave him its
Award of Merit as a distinguished citizen who
has contributed much to his community. He has
been treasurer of the Rotary club since its
founding In retirement, his interest in communitv
affairs has increased.
Last Sunday, Mr. Mason celebrated his
birthday, for the eightieth time. A host of
friends wish for him continued happiness and
usefulness for manv vears to come.

He was born on 9/9/1882 in West Rutland, VT, a son of Patrick and Anna Clark Mason. He moved to Gouverneur with his parents at the age of three.
He married Ruth M. Merrill on 9/27/1922 in North Lawrence, NY.
He was employed in the St. Lawrence and Scholton marble quarries lettering and tracing monuments. He had continued his interest in lettering and had hand-lettered diplomas and certificates for many years for schools and-organizations.
He entered Albany Business College and at the conclusion of his business training became employed at the First National Bank as a clerk in 1912. Later he worked as a bookkeeper and assistant cashier. He retired from the bank in 1952 after 40 years of service, 20 of which he was assistant cashier,
