Wisconsin Ave., DeLand, with the Rev. Don Lyon officiating. Burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery. Visiting hours are from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home, DeLand. Mr. Atkinson was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and moved to DeLand in 1987 from Jacksonville, N.C. He worked in communications. He was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, American Legion Post 6 and Lake Beresford Yacht Club, all in DeLand. He retired from the Marine Corps after serving 31 years as a Master Gunnary Sergeant. He fought in three wars and received five Purple Hearts. He was predeceased by Mary Ellen Chessel Atkinson. Survivors include his wife, Lilyan E. Atkinson, DeLeon Springs; daughters, Karen Atkinson and Margie Atkinson, Jacksonville; stepdaughters, Jeanne Jenrzejewski, Baton Rouge, La., and Suzanne Fox, El Sobrante, Calif.; sister, Geraldine Beechey, Blairsville, Ga.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial donations suggested to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129.
