DROWNS IN RIVER
A man who police identified as George Samuel Kerwood of Penrose
Avenue, Mechanicville, was drowned in the Connecticut River yesterday
after he and a companion fell from a rowboat in the middle of the
stream, according to an Associated Press dispatch from Hartford.
Conn.
The companion, Edward Neely, 21, of Shelbyviile, Ind., was rescued
after 5-year-old Nancy Clark of East Hartford told her father
she had seen the two men fall into the water. He and a friend pulled
Neely out but were unable to locate Kerwood in time.
Mr. Kerwood, lifelong resident of Mechantcvtlie, was employed by the
Oil Transport and Towing Co. of New York.
He is survived by his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kerwood of Stillwater
Avenue, Mechanicville; his wife, Bernlce; a son, George Kerwood;
two daughters, Janice and Joyce Ann Kerwood; two sisters,
Mrs. Harold Crandall of Mechanicville and Mrs. Charles Whitehead
of Waterviiet, and two brothers, Sergt. Arthur Kerwood of the
Army signal corps in the Pacific war zone and William Kerwood of
Mechanieville.
