Delmar J. Jurgens, age 80 years, of Wymore died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at Saint Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in Lincoln.
He was born July 1, 1929, south of Beatrice, and spent his childhood in Atwood, Kan., and later in Marietta, Kan. He married Betty J. Gerdes on Feb. 12, 1950, at the Immanuel (State Line) Lutheran Church, south of Wymore. He attended Auctioneer School at Mason City, Iowa, in 1953, and has been a co-owner of Beatrice 77 Livestock with Clarence Tegtmeier and Junior Thimm.
Delmer and Betty moved into Wymore in 1959. Delmer was a former member of Immanuel (State Line) Lutheran Church, south of Wymore, and was a charter member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Wymore, where he served actively on the church council and other church committees; and was a member of the former Men's Brotherhood of the church. He was also a former member of the board of the Gage County Agricultural Society, was a past Wymore city councilman and the Wymore Volunteer Fire Dept. He had been on dialysis for the past nine years. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, golf, and tinkering.
Delmer is survived by his wife, Betty; by a son, Rick Jurgens and his wife Vicky of Wymore; by a daughter, Nancy Coffey and her husband Jim of Omaha; by three grandchildren, Justice, Lindsay and Connor Coffey; by two stepgrandsons, Nicholas and Garrett Thompson; by a brother, Edward Jurgens of Lincoln; by a sister, Delores Koch and her husband Lloyd of Lincoln; by a brother-in-law, Delmar Gerdes of Wymore; and by nieces and nephews.
Delmer was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dora (Dirks) Jurgens; by a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Peggy Jurgens; and by a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Jurgens.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 11th and L streets, Wymore, P.M.A. Ernest Waltke officiating. Private burial will be at the Wymore Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home, 505 N. Ninth St., Wymore, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, with the family receiving friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m, and not at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Nebraska Kidney Foundation and the church with Gale and Karen Hardin in charge. Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home, Wymore, is in charge of arrangements.
