      Edward L. Shanahan, 73, of 1110 W. Belden Ave. died yesterday at Crouse-Irving Memorial Hospital.

      A life resident of Syracuse, Mr. Shanahan was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church and a member of its Holy Name Society.

      He was a retired employe of the City of Syracuse.

      Surviving are his wife, the former Irene Reynolds; three daughters, Mrs. Thomas Novak of Solvay, Mrs. Peter Losurdo and Miss Kathleen Shanahan; two sons, Michael J. and Joseph F.; a sister, Mrs. James P. Hogan; a brother, Joseph F.; and seven grandchildren.

      Services will be 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home and at 9 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemtery, DeWitt.

      Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.

      Irene Reynolds Shanahan, 95, of Syracuse, died Thursday, September 4, 2014 at St. Camillus. Irene was born in Buffalo but resided in Syracuse most of her life. She worked at E.W. Edwards and Son Department Store and then at St. Camillus. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward and granddaughter, Megan. She is survived by her children, Michael J. (Arlene), Mary Losurdo (Peter), Patricia Novak (Thomas), Joseph and Kathleen Oaten (Phillip); 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held Monday, Sept. 8 at noon at St. James Church, S. Salina St. Calling hours will be on Saturday, Sept. 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
