      Firmin Dugas

      Firmin Dugas (March 8, 1830 – March 16, 1889) was a Quebec businessman and political figure. He was a Conservative member of the Canadian House of Commons representing Montcalm from 1871 to 1887 and in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1867 to 1874.
      He was born in Rawdon Township, Lower Canada in 1830 and studied at Collège de l'Assomption Dugas owned and operated several sawmills and flour mills at Saint-Liguori. He was mayor of Saint-Liguori from 1860 to 1862. He was elected to the Quebec assembly in 1867; he was elected to the House of Commons in an 1871 by-election after Joseph Dufresne resigned his seat to accept a post as sheriff. Dugas resigned his seat in the Quebec assembly in 1874 when it became illegal to hold seats in both houses.
      He died at Saint-Liguori in 1889.
      His son Joseph-Louis-Euclide also later represented Montcalm in the House of Commons.

      Né à Rawdon, le 8 mars 1830, fils de Firmin-Philémon Dugas, cultivateur et lieutenant-colonel, et de Marthe Édouard (Martha Edwards).
      Fit ses études au Collège de l'Assomption. Propriétaire de plusieurs scieries.
      Président de la Commission scolaire de Saint-Liguori du 8 juillet 1860 au 8 juillet 1861 et du 8 juillet 1865 au 27 juillet 1868. Maire de cette municipalité de 1860 à 1862. Candidat défait aux élections de 1861. Élu député conservateur dans Montcalm aux élections de 1867. Réélu sans opposition en 1871. Élu en vertu du double mandat député conservateur dans Montcalm à la Chambre des communes à l'élection partielle du 15 septembre 1871. Résigna son siège à l'Assemblée législative le 20 janvier 1874, à la suite de l'abolition du double mandat. Réélu à la Chambre des communes en 1872, en 1874, en 1878 et en 1882. Défait comme candidat nationaliste en 1887.
      Décédé à Saint-Liguori, le 16 mars 1889, à l'âge de 59 ans. Inhumé dans le cimetière de Saint-Liguori, le 20 mars 1889.
      Avait épousé dans sa paroisse natale, le 30 décembre 1851, Julie-Adéline Pominville, fille de Louis Pominville, boulanger, et de Julie Leduc; puis, à Saint-Liguori, le 12 février 1861, Marie-Malvina-Célina Reinhart, fille d'Édouard Reinhart, cultivateur, et de Clara Apping; et puis, à Rawdon, dans la paroisse Saint-Patrice, le 4 janvier 1876, Anastasia Quinn, veuve de James Daly.
